Conference Opening

From June 29 to 30, 2024, the 2024 China Digital Healthcare Conference: Industry-Education Integration and Sci-Tech Achievements, the 7th China Hospital Logistics Conference, and the 4th China Health Industry Summit & Expo were grandly held in Shanghai. The event was hosted by the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association. The conference welcomed 2,200 participants, including leaders from relevant ministries, hospital logistics experts, directors of logistics and general affairs departments from medical institutions across the country, healthcare enterprise representatives, entrepreneurs, and heads of various branches of the Association. With the themes "Industry–Education Integration, Serving Society" and "New Development, New Demands, New Driving Forces," the conference deeply explored the latest achievements and trends in digital healthcare and innovative practices in hospital logistics development. It provided new momentum for promoting the integration of digital healthcare with education and for supporting the high-quality development of the health industry.

 

 

 

Xizhao Dou, President of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association (NHEMA)

 

President Dou Xizhao stated that since 2015, NHEMA has successfully organized six editions of the China Hospital Logistics Conference and three editions of the China Health Industry Conference. Each conference has received strong support from relevant ministries, leaders, hospital logistics administrators, and the broader healthcare industry, generating a positive impact and significantly advancing hospital logistics development and the health industry. He noted that this year’s conference was supported by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, marking a deep collaboration and exchange between a social organization and a prestigious academic institution. This partnership aims to promote industry-education integration and accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Through this cooperation, both parties are committed to fostering and developing new productive forces in the health industry. President Dou emphasized that the conference strengthens technological innovation by establishing a platform for sci-tech achievement conversion, facilitating the application and promotion of research outcomes, and helping to explore new future opportunities. It also drives the modernization of hospital logistics, shares the latest updates on China’s healthcare development, and supports health industry enterprises in seizing opportunities for growth. These efforts inject strong momentum and firm determination into advancing new productive forces. He expressed his hope that attendees would thoroughly study and understand China’s healthcare policies, actively exchange ideas on digital healthcare industry-education integration, hospital logistics reform, and innovative approaches for health industry enterprises. He encouraged participants to learn from advanced hospital logistics management concepts nationwide and explore best practices for enhancing logistics modernization.

Zhongjie Li, Former Deputy Director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, stated that the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association has actively aligned with national development priorities, supported healthcare reform initiatives, undertaken reform responsibilities, and established communication platforms. By amplifying the voices of hospital logistics departments and healthcare enterprises, the Association has drawn societal attention and motivated stakeholders across the nation, playing a vital role in promoting high-quality development and embarking on a new journey for the comprehensive health industry. He emphasized that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have always prioritized healthcare and medical reform. Over the 75 years since the founding of New China, particularly since the reform and opening-up and the advent of the new era, China's healthcare achievements have garnered global recognition. The results of medical reforms have become increasingly evident, with continuous improvements in public health standards. Key health indicators now generally surpass the average of middle- and high-income countries, gradually forming a medical reform path suited to China's national conditions. This progress has consistently met the growing health demands of the people, elevated public health and well-being to new levels, and significantly contributed to social equity, justice, and harmonious economic and social development. The year 2024 marks a crucial stage in implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan and another significant year for comprehensively deepening reforms. The primary task is to plan further comprehensive reforms, which not only extend the practical advancements made since the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee but also represent a new chapter in advancing Chinese modernization on the new journey.

Deputy Director Zhong Zhang of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission emphasized that industry-education integration is a crucial driver for advancing digital healthcare innovation. By deepening the collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application, the development, transformation, and implementation of digital healthcare technologies can be accelerated, providing strong support for improving medical services. In the current era of deep integration between informatization, networking, and intelligent technologies, digital innovations are profoundly reshaping the healthcare landscape. As a leading city in China's healthcare development, Shanghai has always placed great importance on innovation and progress in digital healthcare. Zhang stated that the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission will further enhance its support for the digital healthcare industry, optimize the innovation ecosystem, and strengthen cooperation with universities, research institutions, and enterprises. Together, these efforts will yield even more substantial achievements in industry-education integration for digital healthcare.

Xiping Wang, Party Committee Secretary of Shanghai Institute of Educational Sciences, stated that the report to the 20th National Congress of the CPC identified education, science and technology, and talent as fundamental and strategic supports for Chinese modernization. She emphasized the need to actively explore models for deep integration between education and the digital healthcare industry. Through university-enterprise cooperation and the integration of industry, academia and research, we should achieve resource sharing and complementary advantages. Meanwhile, we need to strengthen the development of digital healthcare-related disciplines and promote university research. As higher education institutions, we must focus on combining educational innovation with technological revolution, and establish a long-term mechanism for industry-education integration.

In his keynote report titled "AI Outlook", Zhaoxi Gu, Former Vice Minister of Civil Affairs and Member of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, highlighted that while the technology transfer rate of medical research achievements reaches 80% in Europe and America, China's rate stands at merely 5%. He emphasized that accelerating the translation of medical technological achievements is both imperative and a long-term endeavor. Gu noted that artificial intelligence is driving revolutionary changes in the healthcare sector, with broad application prospects in medical image analysis, personalized treatment planning, early disease warning, and drug innovation. Furthermore, large AI models are playing a significant role in enhancing intelligent patient services, including medical guidance, triage, health education, and monitoring. These advancements have substantially improved patient experience and met the public's growing demand for high-quality, diversified, and personalized healthcare services.

Hefeng Huang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Director of School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, addressed the topic of "Industry-Education Integration in Digital Healthcare Empowering Clinical Applications". In her report, she highlighted that digital healthcare is revolutionizing clinical diagnosis and treatment through technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. She advocated for interdisciplinary collaboration and resource integration to further advance digital healthcare in clinical practice, thereby enhancing the quality of medical services.

President Tao Wu of Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences delivered an academic report titled "Building a Health Chain: Promoting the Transformation and Demonstration Application of Sci-Tech Achievements in Proactive Health Service System Construction and Technological Responses to Aging". He emphasized that establishing a comprehensive, omnidirectional, and intelligent health service system is of great significance for improving national health levels and achieving the Healthy China initiative. President Wu elaborated on the university's explorations and practices in the field of proactive health services. He noted that the university is committed to cultivating medical professionals with innovative capabilities and practical skills. He highlighted that generative AI enables in-depth mining and analysis of medical data, providing physicians with more accurate diagnostic and treatment solutions. Additionally, generative AI can be applied to medical image recognition and analysis, significantly improving the accuracy and efficiency of medical imaging. Looking ahead, generative AI in healthcare will leverage big data and machine learning to optimize disease prediction models, while virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies will enhance patient experience. In conclusion, Deputy Director Guangjun Yu emphasized that the School of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, will continue to deepen the application of AI in medical education and healthcare services, contributing wisdom and strength to the Healthy China initiative.

National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association Holds 8th Meeting of 5th Executive Council

 

 

 

Prior to the conference, the Association convened the 8th plenary meeting of its 5th Executive Council. The meeting:

l Reviewed preparatory work for the “2024 China Digital Healthcare Conference: Industry-Education Integration and Sci-Tech Achievements”, the “7th China Hospital Logistics Conference, and the “4th China Health Industry Summit & Expo”.

l Discussed personnel appointments and deliberated pending motions

l Reported on Party-building progress, Party discipline education, and supervisory work plans

 

President Xizhao Dou presided over the meeting and delivered remarks, outlining key tasks for the upcoming conferences and the Association's priority initiatives. He emphasized that these events would actively advance new quality productive forces in healthcare development. By integrating the Association's core mandates with scientific education, this approach aligns with socioeconomic trends and provides replicable models for advancing health services, professions, industries, and enerprises. These efforts have broadened strategic perspectives, enhanced team capabilities, delivered practical experience for branch development, and driven high-quality execution of core missions.

 

President Dou reported that during preparations, the Association submitted written requests to National Health Commission (NHC) leadership, receiving full endorsement. He urged members to:

l Closely align with NHC's central priorities

l Uphold Party leadership with strict governance principles

l Require branch leaders to demonstrate proactive innovation

l Strengthen compliance with evolving policies for social organizations

 

President Dou also reported that during the preparation period for the conference, the association submitted a written briefing to senior leadership at the National Health Commission. The leadership expressed strong affirmation and support for the association’s work. He called on all members to remain steadfast in closely aligning with the central tasks of the National Health Commission, staying focused on the association’s core mission. He stressed the importance of adhering to the leadership of the Party and maintaining a tone of strict governance. He outlined three key directives:

l Branch leaders must stay motivated and carry out creative and proactive work.

l It is essential to stay informed about new requirements from the Party, the government, and relevant ministries regarding social organizations, and to enhance compliance oversight and internal governance mechanisms.

l The association tentatively plans to hold next year’s conference in mid-June 2025, and he encouraged all members to actively contribute ideas, efforts, and support.

 

The meeting was attended by over 110 participants, including vice presidents, executive council members, branch leaders, supervisory board chair and vice-chair, and staff from the association’s administrative offices.
