Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences (SUMHS) is the first application-oriented undergraduate medical institution in China to feature "health" in its name. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, SUMHS thoroughly implements the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, as well as the important instructions delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection of Shanghai. The university firmly upholds the socialist orientation in education, fulfills the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, and actively undertakes the responsibility of cultivating talent for the Party and the country. Aligned with the strategic initiatives of "piloting first trials" and comprehensive reforms in higher education, and under the strong leadership and support of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal Government, the Party Committee of the Education and Health Work, and the Municipal Education Commission, SUMHS focuses closely on the development needs of the healthcare sector and the demand for high-level, application-oriented medical and health professionals. Rooted in Shanghai, serving the Yangtze River Delta, and radiating nationwide, the university aligns itself with the national strategies of building an "Education Powerhouse" and a "Healthy China". Staying true to its positioning of being "application-oriented, distinctive, and internationalized", SUMHS has developed unique educational features characterized by the integration of medicine with engineering, elderly care, and health insurance. The university emphasizes the full life cycle and the entire health continuum, offering a comprehensive academic framework. Currently, SUMHS offers 20 undergraduate programs, including Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Medical Imaging Technology, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Engineering, Dental Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Health Inspection and Quarantine, Food Hygiene and Nutrition, Health Services and Management, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering Technology, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Medical Product Management, Public Administration, Intelligent Imaging Engineering, and Midwifery. Among these, Clinical Engineering Technology, Medical Product Management, and Intelligent Imaging Engineering are nationally pioneering programs. SUMHS practices a unique "Practice + Humanities" dual-helix model for talent development, emphasizing both professional expertise and humanistic values. It has established an early clinical practice teaching system with a focus on general medicine, as well as a "Modern Medical Imaging Technology Talent Training System" that nurtures capabilities in a warm and multidimensional manner. Integrating value shaping, knowledge imparting, and skills development, the university has created a signature "China Series" curriculum centered on "People's Health", promoting deep integration and synergy between health education and ideological-political education. The university is committed to cultivating human health promoters with sound character and psychological resilience, strong problem-solving abilities, and leadership potential within the healthcare industry.
